KodamaTalk ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered language learning application that helps users learn Japanese through voice conversations with AI spirit companions. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Display name
• Authentication tokens (via Firebase Authentication)

2.2 Voice Data

When you use voice conversation features, your voice is recorded and sent to our speech recognition service (OpenAI Whisper) for real-time transcription. Voice recordings are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored. Only the resulting text transcription is retained as part of your conversation history.

2.3 Learning Data

We collect data related to your learning progress, including:

• Conversation history (text transcriptions)
• XP (experience points) and streak data
• Spirit companion status and evolution progress
• Session duration and frequency
• Expressions and vocabulary encountered

2.4 Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store, managed by RevenueCat. We do not directly collect or store your credit card number or banking information. We receive subscription status and transaction identifiers from RevenueCat to manage your access.

2.5 Device Information

We may collect device tokens for push notification delivery, including:

• Device type and operating system version
• Push notification tokens

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Provide and improve the language learning experience
• Generate AI-powered conversation responses
• Track your learning progress and streaks
• Manage your spirit companion's growth and evolution
• Process and manage subscriptions
• Send push notifications (with your consent)

4. AI Processing & Third-Party Services

Our Service uses the following AI and third-party services to deliver the learning experience:

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) servers located in the asia-northeast1 (Tokyo) region. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
• Encryption at rest (GCP managed encryption)
• JWT-based authentication for all API requests
• Rate limiting to prevent abuse

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with similar data protection laws, you have the following rights:

• Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data via the data export feature (GET /api/v1/users/me/export).
• Right to Rectification: Update your profile information at any time through the app settings.
• Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your account and all associated data (DELETE /api/v1/users/me). Your account will be soft-deleted and permanently removed after 30 days.
• Right to Data Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format using the data export feature.
• Right to Object: Opt out of push notifications through the app settings or your device settings.

7. Children's Privacy

KodamaTalk is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete such information.

8. Cookies & Tracking

KodamaTalk is a native mobile application and does not use cookies. We do not employ web-based tracking technologies such as cookies, web beacons, or pixel tags.

9. Data Retention

• Account data: Retained while your account is active and for 30 days after deletion request.
• Voice recordings: Processed in real-time and immediately discarded.
• Conversation transcripts: Retained while your account is active.
• Payment records: Retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
